I’ve just finished my first week at Mixmag – a dance music and club culture magazine that I am pitching my project for. I have spent the week news writing for their online team as well as planning some longer form content to go inside the magazine and online. This has been so valuable as I’ve learnt very quickly their writing style as well as how they format things, which is perfect for my project. I’ve also learnt how they format their info vids, which will help massively when creating the video content for this project.
Next week, I plan on writing a full length feature for Mixmag based on how DJs from 80s and 90s fear becoming irrelevant (this was something Helen Brice, the psychotherapist for musicians, mentioned in our interview that was a very common fear for DJs). Hopefully I can go through her to find those who have experienced therapy and have come out the other side that are willing to be interviewed.
Also whilst I’ve been on placement, I have heard back from Emika’s manager. Unfortunately, Emika is no longer willing to be interviewed about her mental health as she was 'finding the volume of requests and types of questions too much'. So instead, I will use this second week at Mixmag to make more contacts and gain some inspiration as to who I can interview as a case study.
Moxie was in The Lab this week here at Mixmag, give her set a watch below.
