It's all coming together...

So it's two weeks to the day until DJ Minds Matter goes live...

The print feature targeted at the dance music and club culture magazine, Mixmag, has been written. It features an interview with nineties acid house phenomenon, Brandon Block, who talks about some of his real highs and lows. One high being his residency at Space Ibiza alongside fellow friend and DJ, Alex P.

His lows? Having a near death experience as well as his ongoing battle with drink, drugs and his mental health.

Psychotherpist to musicians, Helen Brice, will also feature in the article providing a professional perspective on why DJs in particular are struggling with mental health issues. She also explains some of the methods she uses in real therapy situations with her musicians.

The academic who wrote and conducted the 'Can Music Make You Sick?' study, Sally-Anne Gross, also features detailing how the most successful musicians are in fact the ones who are most at risk to mental health problems.

Results from my own survey that I conducted last week will also feature, to bring some of these previous studies more up to date.

I have also been working on an online feature, which looks at the wonderfully diverse Kaleidoscope Orchestra. This year, the Orchestra paid tribute to Avicii at Creamfields festival. Interviews with the composer, Steve Pycroft, as well as some personal stories from some of his instrumentalists, prove that mental health in the music industry in general is a major cause for concern.

To fully round up the project, the video content I'm producing will look at the BBC Introducing Live event I attended at the beginning of the month. Sally-Anne Gross features as well as the AFEM, who do a Q&A with up and coming DJs of the future who give their questions on mental health in electronic music.

And for any of you reading this who are DJs yourselves, my audio package will feature Helen, who will provide specialist tricks and tips for dealing with those pre-show nerves as well as coping mechanisms for those struggling from anxiety and depression.

So, this is the last post before everything goes live. Thanks for following the journey and all content for the project will be available on here from December 14th.
