At the beginning of the week, I finally managed to arrange an interview with Sally-Anne Gross, the music industry academic who conducted the ‘Can Music Make You Sick?’ study alongside fellow researcher and musician, George Musgrave. Sally spoke about why she decided to do the study as well as highlighting some key factors these musicians in the study came forth with, about what was impacting their mental health.
Yesterday, I spent the day at BBC Introducing Live at London’s Tobacco Dock. I used this opportunity to not only network but attend some vital talks by professionals in the music industry. The most interesting and valuable talks were based around mental health, which were wholly relevant for this project. The Association for Electronic Music held a Q&A based on mental health in the genre, in which both DJs and other industry professionals highlighted the need for more help.
Help Musicians UK also held a conversation with both Sally-Anne Gross and George Musgrave. As a pair they discussed some vital talking points about musicians’ mental health and what they and the charity have planned for the future to provide more support for those who need it.
I plan on creating a 2 minute info-lead video on the whole event, including all these talks, which will be published on here very soon!
